Mountain View Champions Park

P&C Construction worked with Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) and the team at David Evans and Associates (DEA) to design and develop a new community park adjacent to Mountain View Middle School in the District's southwest quadrant. Named Mountain View Champions Park, the $8.5 million project included a new 22-acre community park that would primarily serve as an inclusive gathering space for the surrounding area. Moreover, the new park was designed according to the “Access for All” initiative and with input from a variety of open houses and outreach events. This means the new park is accessible to all people, regardless of their age, ability, or background.

The park includes a 6,500 sf inclusive playground space, walking pathways, community gardens, restroom and concessions buildings, plaza spaces for events, public art, trails and inclusive interpretive elements, enhanced storm water quality areas, two new shade pavilions, and a parking area off SW 170th Avenue. Additionally, the park features four tennis courts, a large double synthetic turf field able to accommodate high school soccer, lacrosse, and baseball/softball practice. The baseball field also features natural grass with a multipurpose outfield and the second smaller synthetic turf field, dubbed the "Champions Too" field, which serves athletes and kids with physical or developmental disabilities.

The park is a perfect balance of programmatic needs, community expectations and constructability. The construction process relied heavily on preplanning, creativity, and a steadfast work ethic. The combined efforts of the project team resulted in a 2018 Oregon Recreation & Parks Association Award and a DJC Top Project Award for Parks and Public Spaces. Together the project team created not just a park, but a place conducive to gathering, exercising, learning and developing relationships - a legacy for future generations of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds to enjoy and call their own.
