Foothills Park

Just across the Willamette River from the Milwaukie Bay Park project is Foothills Park, Lake Oswego’s riverfront gathering space. The CM/GC project for the Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation District involved a complete transformation of the 9-acre site, which was previously inaccessible to the public. Like Milwaukie Bay Park, the park is a small part of a larger trail for pedestrians and bicyclists. The park is anchored by a covered structure constructed of salvaged iron industry materials, leftover from a wood chip processing facility that had shut down and left abandoned on site.

The park features sweeping lawns with paths running parallel to the river, a picnic pavilion, and a variety of public art designed to complement the surrounding environment. Other art pieces range from a war memorial to interactive pathway structures, metal work inspired by the Willamette and a ring of basalt columns etched with inscriptions from the writings of William Stafford, a famous Oregonian poet. Additionally, the park boasts a grassy amphitheater and stage that provides the City with a venue to host things like summer concerts and community events.
