In November 2021, voters in Gladstone approved Measure 3-570 which included the construction of a new public works facility without raising taxes. Based on our success completing their Civic Center (Police Department & City Hall) in 2020, P&C and Scott Edwards Architecture were once again selected to bring the project to fruition.
The City’s initial plan was to demolish their 5,200 sf shop space and build a new facility. After performing a detailed cost-benefit analysis, our team determined that bringing the shop up to structural code requirements (instead of tearing it down) would still provide a functional and comfortable operations center that met their budget. This was accomplished by recladding the shop with energy efficient insulated metal panels to maximize natural light into the interior. The project includes a conference room, administration offices, crew rooms, a staff breakroom with kitchenette, a gender-neutral locker room, a generator (since this is a critical facility), shop spaces and a bright, welcoming lobby.
