The $7.6M athletic complex involved the construction of state-of-the-art turf fields for football, baseball, and softball, 1,500-seat grandstands, 7,500 sf locker rooms, and an athletic equipment storage building for Astoria School District by Columbia Memorial Hospital (CMH). CMH built the complex on an inactive landfill owned by the City of Astoria. Scope includes capping of the landfill, wetlands mitigation, and installation of a methane gas venting system under the new field. Particularly challenging earthwork included moving nearly 150,000 yards of dirt on site to a critical 1/2% design grade throughout the four-acre field. Through effective communication, the neighboring business, Recology, a popular community transfer station, remained fully operational while sharing the sole access road to the site.
